The 3 Trends Luxury Buyers Want in 2022

It’s no surprise that consumer values shifted considerably during the COVID-19 pandemic. Luxury buyers were no exception, and emerged from the pandemic even more selective when it comes to long-lasting design trends.

Members of the American Society of Interior Designers came together at luxury townhome and condominium community Alcove Wicker Park to hear from a panel of experts in luxury design and real estate. Here’s what’s trending in 2022:

Functional Kitchens with Elevated Designs

Once again the heart of the home, kitchens have become an important space for luxury buyers who may be going out less and dining in more as a result of the pandemic. Quartz countertops are a staple in luxury living, and it’s not just about the look. Homeowners have come to understand the fundamental difference between cleaning and disinfecting their space, which has informed their purchasing decisions, according to Caesarstone’s Nick Belling, Territory Account Manager of the Midwest region. Caesarstone quartz is both stunning and functional.

“At the end of the day, your counter is a statement piece even if it’s seemingly understated,” said Belling. Italian cabinetry, high-end appliances, and designer hardware are a few other essentials that make up the luxury buyer checklist. And don’t forget about lifetime warranties, added Belling, which are a huge draw for luxury buyers who are willing to invest in an incredible product regardless of its cost.

On the Radar: Textures and Matte White Accents

Buyers are becoming more adventurous with their spaces, playing with elements like texture to liven up the home and add dimension. Matte white accents are making their way into kitchens and bathrooms, creating visual intrigue and a new sensorial experience.

A Spa-Like Bathroom

In a year of renovations and redesigns, luxury buyers are on the hunt for spaces where lifestyle meets fashion. The bathroom is a prime example, evolving into an oasis and reprieve from day-to-day life amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Luxury buyers also want clean, sleek, and minimal designs that look beautiful and are functional, according to Bill Romac, Showroom Experience Manager at Brizo and Delta.

On the Radar: Custom Sensory Experiences

Brizo is embracing fully customizable shower experiences by offering products that can be adjusted to every person’s preferred audio, aroma, light, and temperature settings. Luxury buyers want control, and custom sensory experiences make this possible.

Location, Location, Off-the-Beaten-Path Location

Although a priority for all home buyers, location is a significant factor for experienced luxury buyers, according to Lisa Long Brown, an agent with @properties Christie’s International Real Estate and member of the Alcove Wicker Park sales team.

“Being off the main street is a huge deal for luxury buyers who want privacy but also want to be close to great spots,” said Brown. “Newer buyers will often settle by being on a main street, whereas more experienced buyers want an off-the-street location.”

Communities like Alcove Wicker Park offer privacy as well as proximity to neighborhood hotspots, world-class restaurants and shopping, and around-the-clock entertainment.

On the Radar: Organization and Clutter-Free Spaces

Organization has become synonymous with luxury. In post-pandemic kitchens, buyers see the value of clutter-free areas, which can be achieved with ample storage space and elegant appliances. Brands like Viking help homeowners achieve this lifestyle with tucked-away appliances like off-counter microwaves.
