The Roycraft: Life in the Heart of Atlanta's BeltLine

In the heart of Atlanta's Virginia-Highland neighborhood, The Roycraft stands as a testament to elegant living. With its promise of "light, warmth, and handcrafted details," one is instantly transported to a world where artistry is integrated seamlessly with a condominium lifestyle. For a more in-depth dive into its history and vision, we spoke to John Goldsworthy, Director of Development Sales at @properties Development Group (@DG).

Filled with Craftsman-era buildings, old pecan trees, and brick facades, the Virginia-Highland neighborhood paints a portrait of a time gone by. Yet, the neighborhood is also a testament to modern connectivity, being adjacent to the transformative Atlanta BeltLine. The innovative redevelopment project was designed to reconnect neighborhoods historically divided by lack of infrastructure, leveraging the old railroad system that was being phased out. "Being from another large city, the Developers, Capital City Real Estate, understood the importance of transportation and redevelopment in up-and-coming areas, which drew them to the BeltLine,” shares Goldsworthy.

The spirit of the Craftsman movement is very much still alive at The Roycraft, with Ponce City Market, a redeveloped Sears Roebuck headquarters, playing a pivotal role. "In the years between 1908 and 1940, you could order a craftsman-style home from the Sears catalog. Then they'd package the pre-made house on the train and ship them nationwide,” Goldsworthy explains. This history is inherently woven into The Roycraft's design, blending Craftsman aesthetics with contemporary touches. And the name? An ode to its location on Drury Street, previously known as Roy Street and the predominant Craftsman style.

The Roycraft is more than just a structure — it's an experience. "Our sixth-floor homes have a unique feature of private rooftop decks. The views of Ponce City Market at night and the Atlanta Skyline are breathtaking," Goldsworthy adds. But its engagement doesn't end at its walls. The Roycraft is deeply rooted in community outreach, forging bonds through partnerships and collaborative initiatives with local Beltline industries.

Goldsworthy also highlights the pivotal role @DG played in bringing The Roycraft's vision to life: "From the outset, we were involved, providing input on product positioning, pricing, and design. Most of the developer's team is in DC, so we manage the ground operations, ensuring they succeed." Their commitment is reflected in the fact that the building boasts a 70% sales rate.

Positioned at the crossroads of history and modernity, The Roycraft offers an unparalleled living experience. And as it continues to forge bonds with the community, it stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful design and community engagement. As residents settle into their new homes, they aren't just buying property; they're becoming a part of a narrative—one that honors the past while eagerly looking toward the future.
